2022 KOREAN COOKING CONTEST IN AUSTRALIA

Do you love cooking with Korean ingredients and getting creative in the kitchen? Join the 2022 Korean Cooking Contest in Australia and share your love for Korean food with others!   CONTEST DETAILS
  • Theme: Create your own dish using Korean fermented sauce (Gochujang or Doenjang) or Kimchi
  • Eligibility: Non-Korean background Korean food enthusiasts all across Australia
    • Professional chefs are NOT eligible. If you are/were a professional chef or your income comes/came from cooking or preparing food, you’re NOT eligible.
    • You are NOT eligible if you are/were of Korean national or either of the parents is/used to be Korean national.
  • Prizes
    • 1st team will receive AUD 1,000
    • 2nd team will receive AUD 700
    • 3rd team will receive AUD 300
    • All team shortlisted on final will receive small gifts.
  • Cooking contest process:
    1. Online preliminary: application by 11:59pm (AEST) Sunday, 31 JULY 2022.
    2. The finalist teams will be contacted by email on the following week.
    3. Australian final will be held in Sydney on Sunday, 14 Aug 2022
    4. Judges will choose 3 teams to receive the prizes on the spot.
  • Judging criteria : Relevance to the theme (25), Composition (20), Taste (20), Plating (20), Degree of difficulty (10), Additional points for Creativity (5) : Total 100
  • Entry fee: Free
    • Any travel expense incurred to join the final needs to be covered by contestants.
    • The cost for the required ingredients needs to be covered by contestants. (If shortlisted to the final, some of the ingredients will be provided depending on your recipe. Details TBC.)

  ONLINE PRELIMINARY
  • How to enter
  1. Team up with 1 other person
    • Team members can be friends, family, coworkers etc. No limitation!
    • Children under 18 needs to team up with an adult.
    • If you make it to the finalist, both of you must be able to attend the final on 14 August in Sydney.
  2. Create your own recipe using Korean fermented sauce or Kimchi
    • Must-use item: at least 1 of following ingredients: Gochujang / Kimchi / Doenjang)
    • If shortlisted, you are required to make the same dish you submitted for the online preliminary. Please create your dish considering the Details of the Australian final below.
  3. Practice and prepare your best dish and send application (download the format) to food@koreanculture.org.au by 11:59pm (AEST) Sun, 31 JULY 2022. Application consists with:
    • Your recipe
    • A brief introduction to why this Korean dish is special to you or any related stories about it
    • 4 photos: ingredients / a cooking process / the final dish / yourself with the dish made by you
  AUSTRALIAN FINAL
  • Date & Time: Sun, 14 AUG 2022 10am-1pm (AEST)
  • Venue: Vive Cooking School, Rosebery, NSW (18/61-71 Mentmore Ave, Rosebery NSW 2018)
  • Details of the Australian final:
    • Length: 60 minute
    • You are required to make the same dish you submitted for the online preliminary.
    • Cooking equipment: basic and essential equipment will be provided (List will be uploaded soon). Contestants can bring their own equipment if it’s non-electric (following the venue’s safety policy.)
    • Both of you must be able to attend the final on 14 August in Sydney. You are not able to change your team member once the application has been made.
    • Once finished with cooking, the finalists are required to explain their dish to the judges (max 1 min) and the judges may ask a few questions (max 2 min) which will be also part of the judgement.

*By joining this event, the applicant is to provide the KCC consent to be filmed or photographed during the contest which may be used for the organisation’s promotional purposes. The participants’ recipes, photos and/or videos submitted for the contest may also be included in the KCC promotion.
